This is one of my ongoing projects at the moment...
Not long ago I had found a few sheets of plastic canvas in my drawer and wanted to try it out. I came across this blog post about needlepoint coasters, attempted one, then wanted to see what else I could do with it. This post from Purl Soho also got me inspired.

I love that it is like cross stitching, but larger. Sometimes stitching gets too tiny and I just want to see faster progress! This is more satisfying that way. Don't be fooled though, it can still take a long time depending on how ambitious you are.

When I started this, I didn't have any yarn on me. The thickest thing I had was DMC coton retors mat, so I had to use what few colors I had. They were given to me from someone else, so I didn't know this yarn is from France and hard to find around here. Luckily, this site ships and has free shipping. Yay! I will be ordering more to finish this project and hopefully find some high quality knitting yarn for my next project instead. Because, warning: I had to loop the thread around three times to get enough coverage.

So for this I used 7 mesh, and DMC 2800, blanc, 2310, 2352, 2759.
Here are some more sites that got me excited:

Sometimes I get bored with needle art that is just for decorative purposes. What better way to show off your creativity and stitching skills than making your next project into a fashion statement?

p.s. I'm sure you must have noticed all the cross stitching, embroidery and beautiful textiles being used in fashion and home products lately. Why not step out of the box and cross stitch a lamp, or embroider a pillow?
There is inspiration to be found in everything from high fashion to history.
